Hello creative friends! I hope you are having a wonderful day but if you’re not then I want to encourage you. The last couple of weeks have been incredibly difficult for me and as I was dealing with some grief it was a battle not to lock myself away from those who love me. Actually, I kind of lost the battle. As I reverted back to my old ways I totally shut myself out and suffered in silence. This nasty habit never served me well through 25 years of depression so I’m not sure why I decided to give it a try again but I assure you, it doesn’t help in any way! So I made this little canvas for myself but also for you who may be feeling really lonely right now, all locked up inside and not willing to let anyone near your pain. There is hope…there is always hope.
Now on to the art part…
Supplies:
MD Craft and Hobby Metal sheet (and the gloves are nice too!)
Spellbinder Paper Arts dies and embossing folder
Diecut machine
Ann Butler Designs/ Earth Safe Finishes Iridescent paints and powder
Design Memory Craft Gesso, Matte Medium and Big Brush Pens
Little Birdie flowers
Strong Liquid Adhesive
Canvas
Tin Snips
Step One: Cut out your diecut pieces from the metal sheet running it through your diecut machine.
Step Two: Place your background piece inside of an embossing folder and run it through your diecut machine.
Step Three: Paint the canvas with a layer of gesso and allow it to dry.
Step Four: Choose three colors of paint to cover the canvas. Start with one color and paint a few areas. You will need two or three coats and you should dry each coat with a heat tool. Repeat with the other two colors. I used Lagoon, Orchid and Limelight.
Step Five: Use the Onix Iridescent paint and cover the entire canvas with a very thin layer. Dry the canvas completely.
Step Six: Add some Sheergold Pearl in random areas on the canvas. Dry the canvas before moving on.
Step Seven: Cover all your metal pieces in gesso, once dry add a layer of Onyx and dry. Paint the background piece with one of the bright colors.
Step Eight: Cover the lock and key with a layer of Iridescent Powder-Sunshine. These will be available from Earth Safe Finishes later this month.
Step Nine: Use matte medium to adhere words to your canvas, cover the words with the medium as well. Once dry use Big Brush Markers to frame and add color around the words.
Step Nine: Adhere everything to the canvas and add embellishments.
That’s it! I added an extra background piece and since I didn’t have the perfect ribbon I made a border piece with the metal sheet following the same directions.
I’m loving these Iridescent paints, what would you do with them?
