Hello creative friends, thanks for joining me here in my online home! The theme this month for my bible journaling printable is Reveal Your Teal in support of SAAM (Sexual Assault Awareness Month) The Reveal Your Teal Challenge is by Confident Canvas on Facebook and Instagram. You probably know by now that I’m a big fan of healing through creativity. It is my hope and desire that this month’s printable will help you heal, especially from shame.
The verse I focused on for this page is Psalm 34:5 which says: “Those who look to Him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.”
The first time I had a healing session and disclosed all that I had been through, I had this verse written on my hand, I looked at it every time I was about to say something that I found totally humiliating. It got me through the day as I confessed my every secret to my pastor and two women who were in the room praying for me. The thought of talking to a man about how I was sexually abused was totally horrifying to me but it was really important to my healing and it taught me that there are safe men out there and God used this man to bring tremendous healing to my soul.
That day was the beginning of my healing journey. There would be many more breakthroughs to come!
Fast forward about 15 years and I had a whole week of prayer ministry where the focus was on shame, fear, and control. I brought every shameful incident that I could remember through my life and let the Lord heal each one. At the end of the week, after my last session, I was so free that I started ballet dancing all over the place. I couldn’t help it, I was so full of joy! I danced in front of a bunch of people that night. The crowd included men. That in itself was a miracle. When I was full of shame, I wouldn’t have danced alone in the dark, much less in front of people. The thought of being seen was terrifying to me.
I know how scary it is to come out with your story but it’s the first step to healing. I hope you will find someone safe to talk to and begin this amazing journey to freedom.
