Freedom Friday- I Am Redeemed

Hello creative friend!
This is week nineteen of twenty in my Freedom Friday posts on Identity in Christ. These blog posts are based on my I Am Journal and I hope you are joining me on this journey whether you own the journal or not.
Our truth topic today is: I am redeemed!

Redemption is a biblical word that means to repurchase or buy back. According to the dictionary it’s the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil or the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt. Redemption can refer to the purchase of a slave’s freedom and according to scripture, we were slaves to sin and in need of a redeemer. Along with being a slave to sin, some were also captives to the works of the law and Jesus redeemed us from that curse and became a curse for us.

Galatians 3:10 says that those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under His curse. Being legalistic and trying to work your way to being made right with God is at it’s core extremely prideful and totally belittles God’s grace. The next verse says So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

Friend, are you exhausted from trying to do all the things? Are you working your way into the ground trying to be the good Christian? Do you lack time and energy to do everything that is on your agenda? Do you know that you have enough time and energy to do everything God has created you to do? If you are overwhelmed in life, especially when it comes to “good works” I encourage you to have a long talk with your heavenly Daddy. Ask Him what needs to come off your plate. Ask Him if you are doing life in your own strength. Legalism is overwhelming and exhausting. It steals the joy out of everything. If you dread doing the things you use to love doing, it might be that it has turned from an action done in love to a legal obligation that makes you feel trapped.
You can join the Christian rat race to make yourself look like a good Christian but it only serves to drive you further away from God. There can be no intimacy with God if you perceive Him as a slave driver and are too busy to ever be in His presence. Don’t be under the curse of the law by trying to earn God’s redemption. He already paid for you to be free through the shed blood of His son Jesus. It is faith in Jesus that makes you holy, righteous and redeemed!
Legalism (or religion) does nothing to bring you into a close relationship with God.

Legalism is like being on a hamster wheel, no matter how fast you run, you’ll never get anywhere and you will kill yourself trying. It’s a curse. I prefer to live under God’s blessing and grace. Tweet That!
Ever since I stopped running on that hamster wheel of legalism, I actually do so much less and yet I get so much more done. I got rid of everything that I was doing that didn’t bring me life because it wasn’t God asking me to do it. Now I have time for the things that I always postponed even though I knew He wanted me to do them. He now can do more through me because I’m not overburdened by all the things that I was doing in my own strength and for the wrong reasons.
I love the following quote so much. Stop trying to make yourself good in God’s eyes. He already sees you through the lens of love and His son Jesus. He wants everything that is dead within you to come to life. Be alive in His love and you will have no desire for dead things! You have been redeemed to live, so live!

Jesus Christ did not come into this world to make bad people good; He came into this world to make dead people live.

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir. Galatians 4:4-7
